I have always been interested in what is happening in the procurement space. What is really top of mind for procurement leaders? What are they concerned about? And what are the stories that can be told about how the function is changing?
To explore this, I did some digging. Looking across discussions, priorities, and recurring themes, a clear picture starts to emerge. These are the topics many people in procurement are focused on in 2026. Some of them are new. Others have been around for a while, but they now carry more weight as expectations, risks, and technology continue to change.
The five narratives that follow reflect those concerns. Together, they help explain how procurement is evolving from a support function into a strategic discipline that plays a central role in resilience, value creation, and long‑term decision‑making.
